The word of the week was most definitely “drama”. After a couple of slates filled with noncompetitive games, week 3 gave us far more even matchups to enjoy. (10) Alabama and (12) USC both survived scares from unranked opponents. (25) Virginia wasn’t so lucky, as they lost to West Virginia in the Duke Mayo Classic…
Week 1 always excites, which is why I need to provide an immediate disclaimer: please don’t overreact. You’ll see shock results and major conclusions drawn with the smallest of sample sizes. Unless they confirm what you already knew, they could be mirages. Carolina scored 37 points, only to cede 59 to Chicago. Cincinnati’s defense forced…
For the second straight week, most of the FBS went up against foes that were far beneath them. Fortunately, we also had more exciting matchups. In our lone conference game in the ACC, California DB Kingston Lopa picked off THREE passes (one pick six) to beat Syracuse nearly on his own. Upset-minded Oregon State nearly…
The NCAA football season has finally arrived. Hopefully we can set all the off-field drama aside and play some football! Most teams played cupcakes, so we saw some seriously gaudy stats. Miami WR Malachi Toney (11/229/3) shattered Hurricanes records. Pittsburgh QB Mason Heintschel threw SEVEN touchdown passes. In one actual matchup, (11) LSU (Tigers from…
The moment we’ve been waiting for is finally here. The Patriots and Seahawks kick off the 2026 season on Wednesday in a much-anticipated matchup, but first, I thought I’d look at where the various teams stand on opening week. After all, we’ve now seen these teams in the preseason. Please don’t be mad if your…
Just like that, the preseason is over. It goes by quickly with only 3 games! Starters have had their chance to get in sync (the few who played at least), camp battles have been won and lost, and roster spots have been secured. Players now await the decisions of their front offices. Each team must…
Unfortunately, much like last year, teams mainly rested their starters in week 2 of the preseason. Those who played only did so for a series or two. That didn’t stop us from seeing interesting and important football! Carolina’s trouncing of Jacksonville ended at the 2-minute warning due to lightning. Cleveland’s game against Buffalo had an…
Two teams kicked off the preseason last week, but NOW it’s officially preseason week 1. All 32 teams participated, and we learned a LOT! Buffalo broke in their awful new stadium (Highmark) and their excellent new receiver (DJ Moore; 3/61). Every team opened the boxes that are their new rookies and free agents. QB competitions…
Welcome back to NFL football! We eagerly awaited the annual Hall of Fame Game, which featured the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals. It has been too long without football, and even though this tilt rarely includes much playing time for starters (if any), we had fun just getting back to the game. This was the…
Football is almost back! The first preseason game, the Hall of Fame game, takes place this Thursday. As we did last year, we’re going to try and make some predictions for the 2026 NFL season. Trying to forecast things before teams play an exhibition game is a fool’s errand, but you can’t deny that it’s…
