As we move forward this season, there will be a lot of focus on the Big Ten and SEC. Thanks to recent conference realignment moves, those two leagues are basically super-conferences at this point. I’ll do my best to squeeze in the ACC, Big XII, and Group of 6 whenever I can, but sometimes you…
The word of the week was most definitely “drama”. After a couple of slates filled with noncompetitive games, week 3 gave us far more even matchups to enjoy. (10) Alabama and (12) USC both survived scares from unranked opponents. (25) Virginia wasn’t so lucky, as they lost to West Virginia in the Duke Mayo Classic…
For the second straight week, most of the FBS went up against foes that were far beneath them. Fortunately, we also had more exciting matchups. In our lone conference game in the ACC, California DB Kingston Lopa picked off THREE passes (one pick six) to beat Syracuse nearly on his own. Upset-minded Oregon State nearly…
The NCAA football season has finally arrived. Hopefully we can set all the off-field drama aside and play some football! Most teams played cupcakes, so we saw some seriously gaudy stats. Miami WR Malachi Toney (11/229/3) shattered Hurricanes records. Pittsburgh QB Mason Heintschel threw SEVEN touchdown passes. In one actual matchup, (11) LSU (Tigers from…
Last year, Texas QB Quinn Ewers fell from a day-2 prospect all the way into round 7. It happened again. LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier plummeted despite having good 2024 tape. As the son of an NFL OC, he should be adept at reading defenses and processing. His arm strength is decent enough, and he played well…
This is it. Everything that the 136 FBS teams have gone through has culminated in this moment. Just two teams remained: (1) Indiana and (10) Miami. We all expected the Hoosiers to be here. The Hurricanes barely got into the field but won 3 nail-biters to play for this title. So who won the Dr….
In our 3rd round of the CFP, we had our first-ever 10-seed advance when Miami defeated (6) Ole Miss in an all-time battle. The Fiesta Bowl was much less dramatic, with (1) Indiana thoroughly dispatching (5) Oregon. These winners will play in the National Championship Game on January 19th at Hard Rock Stadium. It should…
If your team is playing in one of these bowls, congratulations! Normally I’d say “your team is at least 6-6”, but so many schools disturbingly opted out of these games, more 5-7 squads than usual made the cut. If you love football like me, then you’ll appreciate the teams that did show up instead of…
Round 2 of the College Football Playoff has come and gone, and we’re down to just 4 teams. Last week, we got our first road CFP wins (not at neutral sites) in the 12-team era. However, last year, all four teams with byes went down. This long layoff is clearly something the committee needs to…
We have finally arrived! It’s year two of the revamped College Football Playoff, and the committee almost aligned with my personal picks again. We were just one team apart, so I’m pretty happy with that. The top 4 seeds got byes, while the other 8 participants played for the right to face them. In the…
